OGR 04/10/11Hey Ilmi,Thanks for your patience. Okay, just a few observations before I get onto the more positive stuff. You've already made an impression on me - and it's because you've fallen quickly into that category of first year who seeks always to be the furthest from the tutor, who keeps his profile low, and who only blogs or shares work when there's a deadline. It maybe that you've experiencing some technical difficulty etc. which has stopped you from engaging with me, your classmates and the course more fulsomely, but let me clear, Ilmi - you need to make a relationship with me, you need to be proactive in class, you need to show up and make much more of a contribution. What happens, you see, to that 'category of first year' is that they simply don't make it. You've been a mystery to up until this point, which means for the first 2 weeks of term, you've been a ghost, and I think that's how you like it - but I don't. I expect much more engagement from you - and, let's face it, you've hardly been working your socks off. Your blog - in comparison with many of your classmates - is undernourished and unremarkable. I expect this to change, because the quality and activity of a student's blog signals their seriousness and their credibility and you absolutely need to do something about both. That said, of the very few drawings you've produced, some show promise, but I'd encourage you to consider the presentation of your drawings, as they are very faint and underwhelming on the blog, and they deserve a bit more love and attention to make them into striking images. I particularly like the idea in which your hybrid uses sticks to support the weight of his shell - this is certainly worth pursuing, as it lends a level of humanity to your resulting creature. In regards to the Scribd glitches, you're not alone - other students corrected the errors simply by re-uploading.Intellectually and critically, I suggest you raise your game - you were asked to include your intro to your written assignment in your OGR, but you haven't, and I suspect you're in denial about the film reviews etc. I want to see a properly up-to-date blog asap, or I predict your going to struggle to complete this unit to the required standard. This is the halfway point, so you've still plenty of time to reassure me that you're in a different kind of category, and that you're a talent to keep an eye on. Don't disappoint - and why not come and introduce yourself and make a connection. Hugging the back wall of the lecture theatre is all well and good, but....
hey Phil, i really appreciate your concern and im not going to sit here and make excuses for you because this is as important to me. But I've only started working properly midway last week because i was in the middle of looking for accommodation/moving here going back and forth.now that im settled here i will work harder indeed not to just impress you but for my own good as-well. i dont want to fall into any category and hopefully i can have a better impression on you sooner rather the later. thanks.
Amen to that! I'm certain you're going to be amazing, and there's no time like the present. I'm pleased to hear you've got yourself sorted. I do appreciate that first years often have a struggle on their hands in the first few weeks to find their feet and get used to the big cultural jump from school and college to University - but jump you must, and I look forward very much to seeing you take your place more boldly on CGAA.
